Our Programs
USAID Afya Yangu Mama na Mtoto (2022–2027) aims to increase access to quality RMNCAH services for women, youth, and children in 11 regions of Tanzania, working with CHMTs, health providers, and community leaders to strengthen community–facility linkages.
Economic hardship affects community development, contributing to violence and poor mental health; TAI addresses this by strengthening household incomes—especially for women and youth—through initiatives like Women in Sunflower Business, She Farms, Get a Goat Pay a Goat, and Village Savings and Loan (VSLA) groups.
TAI promotes education and behavior change by reducing school dropouts through community-driven school improvements, advocating for affordable sanitary pads, and providing Sexual Reproductive Health education to support safe, inclusive learning environments for girls and boys.
This intervention targets in- and out-of-school youth aged 15–24 with ASRH education through clubs led by Girls Mentors and Youth Health Champions, followed by referrals to health facilities for family planning and STI/HIV prevention.
Rights Awareness
In 2015, Shinyanga recorded an alarming 78% rate of gender-based violence (GBV), mostly affecting women and children. Today, that figure has fallen to 38%, thanks to the leadership of TAI and the collective efforts of the Shinyanga EVAWC Working Group, the Government of Tanzania, and other partners. Through community empowerment, engagement with religious and traditional leaders, advocacy for justice and data transparency, and nearly 30 awareness campaigns, TAI has driven lasting change. Annual symposiums in 2023 and 2024 have strengthened collaboration and accountability, reinforcing the truth that when people know their rights, they can transform their lives and communities. To sustain this progress, TAI seeks continued partnerships and financial support to keep these symposiums alive as vital platforms for unity and action against GBV.
Thubutu Fund
For lasting change to thrive, it must be led by the people it serves. The Thubutu Africa Initiative (TAI) partners with communities across Tanzania, empowering them with the tools and resources to drive their own development.
At the core of our mission is the Thubutu Fund, which supports community-led solutions by directly funding grassroots organizations that tackle local challenges, from child marriage and health disparities to environmental issues and poverty.
Through community philanthropy, advocacy, and social change efforts, we don’t just implement projects—we strengthen local leadership and resilience. Join us in a model where communities are the architects of their own future.
